On the heels of Simi Valley's decision to approve a pilot E-Verify for city workers, VC  Community College District President Bob Huber proposed that county colleges follow suit.

Huber is also running for mayor, and has made a campaign issue out of E-Verify, which is a free government program that analyzes employee information to evaluate whether they are eligible to work in this country. It has a 96 percent accuracy rate, which pretty much makes its adoption a no-brainer.

However, a fellow board member wondered how much time it would take to scan each employee's documents, estimating five minutes per person at a minimum.

"I want to find out how much time our employees would be taking on it," the Star quoted the board member as saying. "We're not overloaded with classified employees now. Time is money."

If that's a concern, let me volunteer to do it. I'll find time to use the free online utility. Let's get this thing done and stop quibbling. [continue reading]

  • No Peace for the Israelis

Writing in the Jerusalem Post recently, Daniel Gordis wrote “Life in our region has taught us that the first necessary step to defending yourself is acknowledging that someone else is out to destroy you.”

The peace talks the White House is sponsoring, much as previous administrations going back to Jimmy Carter have done, are doomed to failure. Just prior to the talks, four Israelis, one of whom was pregnant, were murdered and Hamas took credit for it. In Gaza, 3,000 turned out to celebrate the killings.

The Palestinian Authority, led by Mahmoud Abbas, is a fiction. It exists so that Israel can maintain to the world that it is willing to negotiate a settlement to the issue of territorial issues, but those issues have been settled by a series of wars against Israel going back to the day it was founded in 1948.

For Muslims, there can never been a settlement because Islam maintains that any land it formerly conquered remains theirs even if they no longer control it. That is why the proposed Ground Zero mosque was named Cardoba after the occupation of Spain from the eighth to the fifteenth century.

Ted Belman, writing on the topic of “the occupation”, cited international law, the Fourth Geneva Convention, regarding the West Bank and Gaza. Described as the occupied Palestinian territories, Belman pointed out that “Not only are they not occupied in a legal sense, but also they are not ‘Palestinian’ lands in a sovereign sense.”

“Prior to 1967, Jordon was in occupation of these territories, just as Israel is currently in occupation. It must be clearly understood that Israel’s occupation is not illegal and the UN has never claimed it to be. In fact, Resolution 242 permits Israel to remain inoccupation until they have an agreement on ‘secure and recognized borders.’” Thus, authority over the disputed territories was transferred as the result of the 1967 war against Israel.

Much of the United States today is the direct result of having won territory, largely from Mexico, in wars. A large swath was purchased from France in the Louisiana Purchase and a small section on the southern border was actually purchased from Mexico. We bought Alaska from the Russians.

As Belman pointed out, “The U.S. has traditionally, with the Carter administration being the only exception, refrained from describing the settlements as illegal and instead called them obstacles to peace. In September 2009, Obama went before the United Nations and declared ‘American does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlements.’ This is closer to Carter’s position, but falls short of declaring them illegal.”

Former US ambassador to the UN, John Bolton, said at the time, “This is the most radical anti-Israel speech I can recall any president making.”

After insulting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his first trip to Washington, backing a UN investigation of the “humanitarian” effort to break the Israeli blockade of Gaza from the sea, and sending mixed signals regarding the debate over a mosque near Ground Zero, there are no doubts which side he’s on in this latest charade.

For this reason alone, neither the President’s, nor Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, can be seen as mediating the present meetings between the Israeli government and the Palestinian Authority in good faith. Neither is neutral about Israel or Jews.

Just as Jews cite the Torah and Christians cite the New Testament, Muslims look to their holy book, the Koran, to justify their current actions. To understand today’s turmoil wherever Muslims assert their claims, one must understand that the Koran and the Hadith, prophetic traditions based on it and Muhammad’s life, are filled with hatred for Jews and Christians.

Even with the attacks of 9/11 and others since then, Americans have been slow to grasp that they are locked into a religious war with Islam. A society where religious tolerance is part of its most prized documents cannot understand a religion whose holy book calls for the conquest of all other religions and global political dominance.

There will be no peace for Israel, for the United States, and for the world so long as a religion that celebrates murder and death continues to pursue its mission based on the myths of Muhammad and his followers.

  • A Second Open Challenge to Kevin Yoder
    Post To County:
    Johnson County (KS)
    Post to Other County:
If you would like to post in any additional counties please list the counties and why in this text area.
    ShareThis

Four weeks ago, I posted a column here on Red County challenging State Representative Kevin Yoder, the Republican nominee for the Kansas Third District Congressional seat, to accept a series of seventeen principles that would demonstrate to Third District conservative/Tea Party/9.12 voters that he really is the "conservative" that he claimed he was during the Primary campaign, and that if elected, he would legislate according to those principles.

"The proverbial gauntlet has been thrown" was my parting shot to Representative Yoder in that column.  Today, four weeks later, that gauntlet remains exactly where I threw it.

I can't say that this surprises me.

Representative Yoder obviously believes that Third District conservatives need him worse than he needs them.  He apparently thinks that he can defeat Stephene Moore in the General Election even if conservatives don't vote for him, or if they vote for him in uninspiring numbers.  Furthermore, he evidently reasons, where else would conservative voters go?  Representative Yoder seems to be betting that conservatives will look at the choice between him and Stephene Moore, conclude that there really is no choice, and vote for him almost by default.

While many conservative voters undoubtedly will come to that conclusion, many others are inclined to pass the Congressional section of the ballot over entirely; effectively voting, "Neither".  This bodes very poorly for Representative Yoder in the General Election, because every vote he fails to get is a vote Stephene Moore will not need to get in order to win.

More to the point, if, in fact, Representative Yoder has actually adopted this attitude, what fundamental difference does it reflect between him and Dennis (Mr. Stephene) Moore?  This is exactly the same attitude, after all, that Congressman Moore has displayed toward Third District voters throughout his twelve years in Congress.  Smug, unresponsive and unaccountable.

I won't rehash the "laundry list" of principles that I challenged Representative Yoder to commit to.  Anyone who is interested can read the original column, "An Open Challenge to Kevin Yoder", elsewhere on this Web site.  But I will reissue the challenge; this time, with a bonus.

If anyone from the Yoder Campaign is reading this column, please know that the conservative/Tea Party/9.12 voters of Kansas Third Congressional District are not 100% sold on your candidate.  Far from it.  You and your candidate take conservative support in the General Election for granted at your own peril.

Too many times in the past, conservatives have been burned by voting for candidates simply because an "R" appeared after their names on the ballot.  And to their dismay, they have seen those candidates that they voted for go down to defeat because the candidates were no more committed to conservative principles than the Democrats they were opposing.  Or worse yet, they have seen those candidates win the election and then totally disregard conservative principles while in office, pursuing a statist agenda that is only marginally better than that of the Democrats they defeated, if at all.

So again, Representative Yoder, the proverbial ball is in your court, as it has been for almost a month now.  Will you accept the seventeen principles that I outlined in my column four weeks ago?

    And now, the bonus.

Since Third District conservative/Tea Party/9.12 voters have their doubts about you, Representative Yoder, do you intend to do anything to dispel those doubts?  If so, what do you intend to do?  How will you win over the conservative voters whose support you will need to defeat Stephene Moore in November, but who were skeptical of your conservative bona fides during the Primary campaign, and who remain skeptical of them more than a month after you won the nomination for Congress?

If I may make a suggestion, Representative Yoder, why not address conservative/Tea Party/9.12 voters at a "town hall" meeting?  Such a meeting would give conservative voters an opportunity to voice their specific concerns to you directly; to tell you exactly what they expect you to do on their behalf if you are elected to Congress.  A "town hall" meeting with conservative voters would likewise give you an opportunity to personally reassure them that you truly are on their side in the fight against the destructive, statist,, socialist and anti-American Obama/Reid/Pelosi agenda.

Finally, Representative Yoder, your participation in such a meeting would also represent a gesture of goodwill that would demonstrate to Third District voters that Congressional representation by Kevin Yoder would be very different, in a positive way, from representation by Moore--Dennis or Stephene.

So, Representative Yoder, what is your answer?  Would you agree to a "town hall" meeting with Third District conservatives if such a meeting could be arranged?  If not, why not?  It would appear that you have nothing to lose by meeting with these voters, but an entire election to lose if you don't.

If you or any member of your campaign staff are reading this column, Representative Yoder, feel free to accept or reject this suggestion by responding in the "Comments" section.

Once again, Representative Yoder, many Third District conservative/Tea Party/9.12 voters are betting that you'll pass on the opportunity to meet with us.  And once again, I'm challenging you: PROVE US WRONG.

  • Dr. Thomas Hoenig, President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City speaks tonight

Tonight I attended the public forum for Dr. Thomas Hoenig, at the Crowne Plaza in Lenexa.  Dr. Hoenig delivered a non-partisan speech about our economy and the Federal Reserve.

He did state 3 risks that he felt were influencing the outlook and creating our current economic uncertainty:

    1) The health care bill and the 2300 page Dodd/Frank Financial Regulatory bill - (these bills alone are years of regulations in the making and creating uncertainty with businesses and how it will impact them.)

2)Uncertainty of whether the Bush tax cuts will get extended

    3) Our Nations federal debt

So when I opened up the Wall Street Journal this morning, the headline read, " Health Insurers Plan Hikes".

The article started off by stating, "Health insurers say they plan to raise premiums for some Americans as a direct result of the health overhaul in coming weeks, complicating Democrats' efforts to trumpet their signature achievement before the midterm elections.  Aetna Inc., some BlueCross BlueShield plans and other smaller carriers have asked for premium increases of between 1% and 9% to pay for extra benefits required under the law, according to filings with state regulators."

Secondly, I would propose all the Bush tax cuts be extended.  Of course, we want to cut taxes for the middle class, AND we also want to cut taxes for the businesses that provide the middle class with the jobs.   Additionally, the Bush tax cuts will allow businesses to choose how they use the saved money in a way that will best fit their company.

Third, our federal deficit must get under control.  Our federal government has passed bills in the past two years without any idea how any of it will impact our nation and with price tags that are unsustainable.

Even though Dr. Hoenig did not endorse or criticize any particular side of the political debate, he didn't need to.  It is believed by a growing number of Americans that it is our current and failed politicians' policies that have brought us to this current economic state.

  • State Worker Who Promoted Patty Murray's Campaign to Be Disciplined

According Washington Employment Security Department spokeswoman Sheryl Hutchison, an email sent in mid-August by a WorkSource staffer urging veterans to campaign for Sen. Patty Murray will result in disciplinary action against the state worker involved. Hutchison’s comments regarding the incident were quoted in The Columbian and indicate that the agency is taking the matter seriously.

From the article at The Columbian:

Although WorkSource is a public-private joint venture, Sheryl Hutchison, spokeswoman for the Employment Security Department, confirmed that the sender is a state employee and said the communication was a clear violation of several laws.

“It violates state law, it violates federal law, it violates policies of this agency, and, yes, disciplinary steps will be taken,” Hutchison said this morning. “Most of the people in this agency are at least partially federally funded, so there are Hatch Act issues. On the state side, you are not allowed to use state facilities, supplies, time or equipment for any personal benefit or political work.”

Asked whether the violation was a firing offense, Hutchison said, “It depends on the severity” of the infraction. “If it’s the first time, it wouldn’t necessarily be” grounds for termination, she said.

The Employment Security Department’s swift and resolute response comes in sharp contrast to that of the Murray campaign. A statement given by Murray campaign spokeswoman Julie Edwards to The Columbian failed to address lingering questions about how much involvement, if any, they had in the incident.

The email that was sent from the state worker’s government account directed veterans to contact a specific person -- Kerala Hise -- at a PattyMurray.com email address, and referenced attachments. The attachments and other communications between the Murray campaign, Employment Security or WorkSource are targets of the public records request that Employment Security is currently endeavoring to fulfill.

Anaheim has some very strong candidates running in its city elections this November. Conservative stalwart Tom Tait is the front-runner for mayor. Leading the pack, in my mind, among the council candidates is Kris Murray. She possesses the right combination of conservative principles, business experience and government experience to be a very effective councilwoman on behalf of free enterprise and limited government. Her campaign is demonstrating that a conservative can build a broad, winning coalition in support of economic opportunity and fiscal discipline.

Kris is having a fundraiser tomorrow that is themed "Growing Anaheim's Economy with a Thriving Resort District". here's the info:

  • Burn the Qur’an? Better to Read It Aloud and Educate Us All

Pastor Terry Jones of the 50 member Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Florida  has been roundly criticized for his Burn a Koran Day to commemorate 9/11 this Saturday. This is not the first provocative such act by Pastor Jones and his flock. During the contentious Orlando, Florida juvenile court custody hearings concerning Christian convert Rifqa Bary they showed up with tee shirts that read “Islam is Evil”.
However, burning books is irrational. It is against the values of Western Judeo Christian thought - especially those of the Enlightenment. Values that produced our Constitution with its precious First Amendment supporting freedom of expression, including views that may personally offend us. Hence, Pastor Jones’ exercise of that freedom of expression in his ‘bonfire of vanities.’
FoxNews reported that the State Department condemned Pastor Jones’ action calling it un-American. General David Petreaus has implied that the event would further inflame Afghan and Muslim ummah outrage possibly resulting in US and Coalition force casualties among those engaged against the Taliban in Afghanistan. Outraged Afghans in Kabul were shown burning American Flags and effigies of Pastor Jones. Even the National Evangelical Council and National Council of Churches, a mainstream Protestant group, have condemned Pastor Jones and his congregation for tossing copies of the Qur’an onto a public bonfire.
Frank Gaffney in a Big Peace article, “Oppose Shariah, Don’t Burn the Koran” noted:
[Petreaus]  believes that, “Images of the burning of a Quran would undoubtedly be used by extremists in Afghanistan – and around the world – to inflame public opinion and incite violence.”
Such concerns are, of course, not unfounded, given the past practice of adherents to Shariah (a.k.a. “extremists,” according to Gen. Petraeus and the Obama administration) who seize upon any real or perceived slight to Islam in ways calculated to enforce submission to its dictates.  Usually, these involve the actual use or threat of violence against innocents.
     Pastor Jones had this reaction:
Jones said he and members of his church are taking seriously several death threats directed at them, but if something happened, it would not be their fault.

"We will not be responsible," Jones said. "We are only reacting to the violence that is already there in that religion."

Pastor Jones’ Qur’an book burning unfortunately conjures up imagery of the Nazi book burnings  of May 10, 1933 and the sacking and burning of hundreds of Jewish synagogues destroying thousands of Torahs during the Kristallnacht Pogrom, November 9-10, 1938.
Let us not forget the Palestinian Muslims who occupied the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem in April, 2002 desecrating Christian holy books using them as toilet paper. Non-Muslim air passengers on Sharia compliant Saudia – the national airline of the Royal Kingdom - can be ejected for carrying Bibles and prayer books. Even British Air advises  air crews not to display religious symbols or Bibles on flights to Saudi Arabia. The Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia denies construction of churches and synagogues, let along private worship on the holy land of Wahhabist Islam.
Rather than burning Qur’ans in a bonfire to attract media attention, Pastor Jones might use that media event to hold a “teachable moment.”
Instead of burning the Qur’an Pastor Jones should read passages aloud from the Muslim ‘holy book’ to show the media, America and the Western world how hateful Islamic Sharia doctrine is towards Jews, Christians and all infidels.
He could cite Suras of the Qur’an that motivated the 19 Saudi, Egyptian and Yemeni Jihadis educated in Western rationalism to kill 3,000 innocent victims on 9/11 in lower Manhattan, at the Pentagon and in southeastern Pennsylvania.
In a review of co-author Sam Solomon’s book, Al Yahud: Eternal Islamic Enmity & the Jews, we noted what Pastor Jones could preach to the American public on 9/11:
The authors note that when Muslims pray toward Mecca five times daily, they recite Sura verses laden with hatred towards Jews and Christians:
In each of the five daily ritual prayers, Muslims around the world pray the opening Sura of the Qur’an ending in these two verses, “Guide us to the straight path, the path of those whom You have favored with guidance, not [the path] of those against whom there is wrath, nor of those who are astray.” [Sura 1:6-7]… Muslim scholars are in unanimous agreement that “those against whom there is wrath” are the Jews . . . While “those who are astray” are identified as being the Christians.

The demonization of Jews dominates the Qu’ran. Virtually three fifths (60%) of the Aya or verses, nearly half of the Suras (50 out of 114 Chapters) deal with Jews; 500 of the Aya are explicitly negative. According to the Syrian Mufti, Abdul Sattar El Sayed,  Jews are demonized by purportedly “lying about G-d, mutiny against Allah, hard heartedness, hypocrisy, exploitation and opportunism, trickery, cowardice, miserliness, and garbling the holy books.” The Qu’ran essentially supplants the Torah, Psalms and Gospels of Jesus considering them and other antecedent religious texts as distortions of the revealed truth as propounded by Mohammed. The Sunnah and Hadiths exemplify the character and role of Allah’s Messenger, Mohammed, through his deeds and actions to be copied by Muslims in their daily lives. The authors show that both in word and deed Mohammed vilified, exterminated, enslaved and subjugated Jewish tribes making Arabia virtually judenrein.

Pastor Jones, do not light that bonfire on 9/11. Instead of burning copies of the Qur’an both you and your flock should read aloud the hateful Suras of the Qur’an. Perhaps this alternative media event might alert viewers of how hateful Islam is towards all non-Muslims and why Sharia and Islamization in America must be opposed.

A senior aide for Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) was arrested Tuesday for attempting to bring marijuana into the Hart Senate Office Building, according to U.S. Capitol Police reports.

Marcus Stanley, who served as a senior economic adviser and at one time worked on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee — chaired by Boxer— was stopped by a police officer Tuesday morning when he allegedly tried to “remove and conceal” a leafy green substance from his pocket during a security screening at the Constitution Avenue door of the Hart building around noon, according to a Capitol Police report.

Police confiscated the substance, which later tested positive for marijuana, and Stanley quickly resigned.

This is not the first time a member of Boxer’s senior staff has been arrested. Senior policy adviser Jeffrey Rosato, who also worked on the EPW committee, was fired in 2008 after he was arrested and charged with the receipt and distribution of child pornography...

This year's gubernatorial election is the first time since 1998 without an incumbent on the ballot. And that year, one of those non-incumbent candidates - Roy Barnes - was elected and then defeated for a second term by Sonny Perdue.

With Labor Day behind us - as the campaign begins in earnest - I think it might be instructive to look back briefly at Roy Barnes from his election twelve years ago to his defeat in 2002.

Swept into office in 1998, Barnes promptly set about an ambitious agenda.

He was going to reform the state's public school system. He wanted to end the divisive fight over the Confederate emblem dominating the Georgia flag. "...He did both, and he paid dearly for it..." (Atlanta Journal-Constitution, June 7, 2009).

Barnes underestimated the power of the teachers union union. Confederate heritage supporters might not have voted for him anyway. But when Barnes relegated the rebel emblem to a minor role on a revamped state banner, it was a call to arms.

His governing style was arrogantly brash, aided and abetted by a Democratic-controlled legislature that favored big state government, lavish spending and tax hikes to pay for it all.

The legislature was also becoming increasingly ethically challenged if not corrupt - several prominent leaders resigned or were indicted - and the Democrats played raw, political games with reapportionment in 2000. Gerrymandering was a closed door Democratic power grab.

All of this turned out to be a drag on Barnes' re-election bid in 2002.

A little known, Democrat turned Republican State senator, Sonny Perdue, was Barnes' challenger. Few expected Perdue to unseat an incumbent governor in a state that hadn't elected a Republican in 135 years.

Despite being outspent some 10-to-1, Perdue pulled off one of the biggest upsets in Georgia political history. He received 52% of the vote. Perdue's famous - or infamous - campaign ad derided Barnes as "King Roy" and likened him to a rat. Republicans subsequently captured the legislature: the State senate - for the first time in 132 years - and, in 2004, the State house too.

In his 2010 comeback bid, Roy Barnes faces a Georgia that's remained solidly in the Republican column in subsequent, major statewide elections since 2002.

This, despite the fact that the Georgia electorate - within a few points - is almost evenly divided between Democrats and Republicans. Each party can count on a base of about 43% of the General Election vote. The rest comes from Libertarians and Independents.

However, the Georgia electorate is also more diverse now and less wedded to party affiliation and loyalty.

As usual, the Libertarian candidate - this year it's John Monds - is the fly in the ointment. In 2006, the Libertarian candidate for governor polled 3.8% of the vote. In a close election - which many say 2010 will be - that can spell the difference for either Barnes or his Republican opponent, Nathan Deal.

The recent and very nasty Republican Primary runoff between Deal and Karen Handel will seem like a Quaker House meeting compared with what's in store as Barnes and Deal square-off.

Whatever the outcome, that famous Bette Davis' line from "All About Eve" comes to mind:

"Fasten your seat belts, we're in for a bumpy ride."

    Let the games begin!

As someone who’s reported on communist involvement in illegal immigration protests in the past, it is with no small amount of relief I see that the Los Angeles Times is now reporting the same. Moderates and liberals tend to write off articles on this topic composed by conservative authors as paranoid-filled delusions. It seems that now it will be more difficult to advance that claim now that the Times is on board.

    The liberal newspaper admitted:

Some of the earlier unrest appeared to have been fueled by political activists from other parts of the city. About a dozen people who appeared to be affiliated with the Revolutionary Community Party handed out literature about its beliefs and other cases of officer-involved shootings, and chanted messages over bullhorns about a communist revolution.

The illegal immigrant community that the communists are attempting to recruit was inflamed over the shooting of a “Guatemalan day laborer”, according to The Seattle Times, PC –speak for illegal alien. More from The Seattle Times:

An estimated 300 protesters who gathered outside the local police station hurled eggs, rocks and bottles and set a trash bin on fire. Others dropped household items from apartment buildings.

"People were throwing televisions, air conditioning units, miscellaneous furniture and other objects from the windows," Lt. Cory Palka said.

Police said they shot the suspect when he came at them with a knife.

The officers approached the suspect and told him in Spanish and English to put down the weapon. Instead, Jamines raised the knife above his head and lunged at Officer Frank Hernandez, a 13-year veteran of the department, Beck said.

Eyewitness accounts from six civilians, nine police personnel and two fire department staff indicate Hernandez fired twice "in immediate defense of life," Beck said. Jamines died at the scene.

Predictably, the elite media blurred the line between legal immigrants and ones that are illegal. The deceased came to the United States six years ago “and spent most of his time looking for jobs in a Home Depot parking lot near his home.” His acquaintances described a man who was fond of drink but not violent.

"Killing a drunk isn't right," said Juan Jaminez, also a day laborer. He and others described Jamines as a friendly, hardworking man who liked to drink on the weekends but wasn't violent.

Even drunk people can stab somebody, and this man came at the police with a knife. They did the correct thing in shooting him, and now the incident is being used by those that hate this country to incite illegal immigrants into rioting. The longer this pattern is ignored, the worse it will get.

H/T to the Winston Group for putting this excellent video together on the differing opinions of two Democrat Presidents: John F. Kennedy and Barack Obama on tax cuts and their impact on the economy.

It amazes me how Democrats are not identifying themselves as Democrats. Nancy Freehan is another one that walks like a Democrat, talks like a Democrat but does not identify herself on her website or on her campaign sign (right) as a Democrat.

Nancy has contributed to Democrat causes since 2004. According to OpenSecrets.org, Nancy contributed to the Democrat PAC Campaign for Florida's Future. Nancy also donated to two failed Democrat candidates for the U.S. Congress - Jan Schneider and Christine Jennings.

So why does Nancy not bask in the glow of the Democrat Party?

Well Nancy Freehan, Democrat candidate for the Florida House of Representatives in District 70, has lots of reasons not to, the top two being President Barack Obama and the Democrat Congress. While President Obama is not on the ticket in November, Senator Harry Reid and Speaker Nancy Pelosi are.

Nancy is supported by the Democrats favorite support group - big labor. Looking at her campaign donations to date we see a troika of labor unions. The Sarasota Classified/Teachers Association Tiger PAC,  the Teamsters Local Union No. 79 and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local No. 915. So it is not surprising that Nancy does not support holding teachers accountable for student performance (Florida bill SB 6) on her website. Nancy is "pleased that Governor Crist vetoed it", even though President Obama's Secretary of Education Arne Duncan favors it as part of the Race to the Top program.

Nancy seems to be a one issue candidate - off shore drilling.

The Florida House of Representatives took the bold and right move to support giving the Governor and cabinet the authority to explore off shore and issue drilling leases within the 3 nautical mile limit (10 linear miles) off of Florida's shore lines. So what is wrong with that? Everything according to Nancy. According to Nancy, "I was adamantly opposed to near shore drilling even before the Florida House, including Rep. Doug Holder [incumbent District 70 Representative], voted to allow it in 2009."

You see, the only reason Nancy moved here is because of "our natural treasures". Well guess what Nancy any oil and natural gas off of Florida's shores are natural treasures that create jobs. What Nancy fails to recognize is that Florida is an energy dependent state and gets over half of our electrical power from natural gas. The health of our economy and strength of our jobs market is totally dependent upon cheap and reliable power.

The Florida House recognized that and rightly so. The Deepwater Horizon oil spill has shown us how the markets deal with mistakes. BP lost half of its valuation and is subject to ongoing litigation for any damage done. This is rightly so. But as states like Texas, Louisiana and Alabama understand, off shore drilling and the oil industry account for some 9 million U.S. jobs. Putting a moratorium on off shore drilling forever is more damaging to Florida's long term energy independence and economy. Just ask the Gulf coast states after President Obama's ill conceived moratorium.

Nancy supports the PACE bill that puts government on the hook for individuals wanting to put solar panels on their homes or hurricane panels on their windows. PACE is a bad idea hatched by those who want to expand the role of government by picking winners and losers in the energy industry. It enriches China and not Florida. See my column on PACE loans by clicking here.

Finally, what is the connection between Nancy and George Soros?

Nancy proudly displays pictures of her on Siesta Key Beach in front of a Hands Across the Sand poster. Nancy was a key organizer of this event, which occurred on July 26th while the Deepwater Horizon rig was still leaking oil, which has since disappeared. The connection is Hands Across the Sand was sponsored in large part by MoveOn.org, which is funded by George Soros. In a column about this event I point out that Soros is heavily invested in the Brazilian oil company Petrobras to the tune of $900 million. Additionally, Petrobras received $2 billion from President Obama to help fund drilling off the shores of Brazil in water deeper than the Deepwater Horizon rig. Ironic isn't it?

So, I connected the dots for you. Now you understand that Nancy is really a Barack Obama Democrat. There is no denying it.
